Google Tablet to compete with the iSlate

googletablet Google and HTC are rumored to be working on a tablet PC that would directly compete with the Apple iSlate according to Australian publication Smarthouse.

HTC, who has been working closely with Google for the past 18 months have several working models of a touch screen tablet including one model which is based on the new Google Chrome Operating System. An Android based device which is set to be shown privately to core HTC customers at the CES Show will incorporate new Qualcomm processors, touch technology and new software from Adobe. Only time will tell if Google and the other rumored tablet’s will be able to stand up to the Apple iSlate.  One big technical obstical that these tablet’s will have to get around is the touchscreen patent Apple holds.  The touchscreen alone would give Apple a advantage because of the sensitivity and scratch Resistance. The iPhone’s touchscreen is what has keep it Superior to any other touch phone on the market.

The supposed “Islate” does already exist for over three years and is called “HTC Shift”. With the added bonus of a retractable keyboard!

There is plenty of touch technology out there that is good. i don’t think Apple has a corner on touch. Their screen may be superior however.

@John, I agree but however I would see Google with the better screen. The reason being is Google and HTC both are shifting towards OLED (organic light emitting diode) screens. Apple seems to be moving from LCD to LED. The main advantage OLED has over LED is the power consumption is WAY less and it houses more pixels with an average 1,000,000:1 contrast ration and loads of colors that are all naturally bright. Look up OLED’s, I think you will like them. =)

Cheers,
Dill

@John, I would tend to disagree. If there was better screen technology on the market we would see it being used on current smartphones. The current screens being used by all manufacturers are using the thin film to glass technology, the same type that PDA’s have been using for more then a decade. The new smartphone’s now have more sensitive screen’s then they did in the past and they also have multi-touch, but they still have the plastic film on top, which scratches real easy and needs a protective layer placed on top of it, which only desensitizes it more. And as for the OLED, it is rumor that Apple is using this technology on the iSlate, and that is why it was delayed until Q2 2010 instead of November 2009.
