Apple Media Event Confirmed

Well, it’s been a busy news day after a very slow weekend.  First up is Apple has sent out invites to “select” members of the press for an event on January 27th.  The invitation says, “Come See Our Latest Creation”.  This means that they are unveiling something completely new.  So, my money is on the tablet device.

Second, there is a report from foxnews.com that Apple is going to be showing the Tablet along with the “iPhone OS 4.0″, but no new iPhone hardware yet.  If this is true, then Steve Jobs looks to be departing from the traditional format of announcing all the stuff you would expect and then after do “And one more thing”.  I’m not sure how I feel about this because the “one more thing” format is absolutely brilliant.  Apple gets to tell everyone about all the expected updates, etc first when everyone is fresh and paying attention.  Then, just when your attention is starting to wain, Steve drops the “And one more thing” on the audience and everyone perks up.  It also gives him an out if there isn’t something truly new to announce.  But, I can also see Steve wanting to have 100% focus on the new tablet device and do another event later for new iPhone hardware or other stuff.

Third, there is rumor about iLife being updated and announced at the same event.  This makes no sense to me.  iWork being made multi-touch would be much more useful and ground breaking.

Part of the invite for the January 27 Apple event, as sent to CNET Blog Network’s Jim Dalrymple.

Could be both- a lot of circles kind of equate iLife and iWork in the same column. While an iWork update would be a lot more useful to folks planning to use a tablet for work, iLife is the stuff that sells Apples to the masses.

Color seems important…

What’s the mean thing missing in current ereaders?… :)

Jobs has also said dedicated ereaders makes no sense…
Smoke and mirrors? Multifunctional ereader? full blown tablet?

Great post, but I think that the tablet device is just the beginning of a better sort of laptop as I describe in my post.
