OpenPeak has launched their ultraportable tablet, the OpenTablet7.  It was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this year.  “It is a tablet device that combines high-quality VoIP telphony with advanced multi-media communications services and applications to deliver an engaging, interactive experience.

The OpenTablet 7 is a multi-touch screen tablet with a 7 inch display, a TFT LCD screen with LED backlighting.  It features 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and AT&T and OpenPeak have chosen to collaborate and add 3G WWAN broadband connectivity for online-anywhere access, though it’s not clear if AT&T will sell the OpenTablet 7 directly.  It’s powered by an Intel Moorestown  CPU, and can serve double duty as a phone and wireless media/web tablet. It offers HDMI digital interface, output, dual cameras, both front and back for snapshots and video calls.  USB interface, MicroSD slot, built-in speakers and microphone; and weighs 1.15 pounds and is 0.6 inches thick.  It is available with either a desktop docking station or handset docking station.

OpenTablet is an exciting multipurpose device with all the benefits and flexibility of a wirelessly connected personal computing and entertainment device,” said Glenn Lurie, president, emerging devices, resale and partnerships, AT&T.  “When you combine the capabilities of OpenTablet with AT&T’s 3G mobile broadband service and AT&T Wi-Fi service, we’re able to provide consumers wireless access to content they most desire, right at their fingertips.

This OpenTablet 7 offers a dual media consumption device and a home control device, it can grab music and videos from local networks, home theaters and home automation systems.  It is capable of 720p of video recording and 1080p of video playback, and it even has an HDMI port to mainline HD video into a home theater system.    There will be a OpenPeak Device Management Services/OpenPeak App Store available to download new titles from, possibly Facebook, Flickr, Pandora, YouTube and other web-based sites.  The company is including a lot of extras here that aren’t usually found on tablets; for example, device management allows providers to remotely provision, monitor and update the tablet over a broadband network.

It has a user interface that is powered by Flash. The company claims that the “software framework enables designers and developers to create interactive applications, using Adobe Flash CS4. The integrated device management services allows providers to remotely provision, monitor and update customer devices over broadband networks.”

Dan Gittleman, CEO of OpenPeak, said: “The OpenTablet is the ultimate control panel, delivering the most commonly accessed multi-media services right to your fingertips anywhere,” “The all-in-one device allows you to sync schedules, check movie times, listen to music, watch videos, get weather updates, and even monitor energy usage and home security, all from a single, easy-to-use device.

In addition to the exciting possibilities for in-home use of the OpenPeak OpenTablet 7, the device also provides a powerful way for enterprise businesses to integrate telephony and multi-media services right on the desktop, And, hospitality providers can also use it to increase hotel revenue and guest loyalty by delivering in-room dining options, information about spa services, nearby attractions, airlines and travel services and more right to the bedside table in an ultra-modern touch-screen device.

The device will be available with either a desktop docking station or handset docking station.
